Watch: GCATS on life after go-live
GCATS Telecom & Critical Power Services explains what changed after implementing Acumatica with Dominate Solutions.
- Real-time financial reporting for leadership
- Project costing visibility across the business
- Cloud access that scales with a growing team
- One operation instead of disconnected departments
GCATS, a Dallas commercial electrical contractor working data center and mission-critical power projects, replaced Microsoft Dynamics SL and a stack of disconnected estimating tools with Acumatica Construction Management integrated to Procore, Velixo and Agave. The company now runs a 300+ employee organization at higher large-GC volume without having added finance or accounting staff.
GCATS
GCATS is a commercial electrical contractor headquartered in Dallas, specializing in electrical, data center, mission-critical power and renewable energy work. Founded in 2005, the firm has built its reputation on fast-paced execution for general contractors, developers and owners across the United States.
As project scale and complexity increased, the systems underneath stopped matching how the business actually ran. The problem was not any single application. It was that none of them talked to each other, so people did the integrating by hand.
The engagement started with business process consulting and a solution roadmap rather than a software configuration. The objective was a modern operating foundation, not a license.
Disconnected systems slowed growth
GCATS was operating on a collection of legacy applications that could no longer scale or integrate. Maintaining the stack had itself become a workload.
A fully integrated construction technology stack
Acumatica Construction Management as the core, with best-in-class tools for estimating, project management, reporting and field operations integrated into one ecosystem rather than replaced.
Scale without added back-office strain
GCATS manages the growth of a 300+ employee organization and a higher volume of large GC projects without increasing finance or accounting staff.
Automated takeoff and estimating
Estimating processes automated rather than rebuilt by hand on each bid.
Faster bid-to-project turnaround
Won work moves into production without a manual re-entry step.
Daily field time entry
Real-time visibility for project managers and operations, captured at the source.
Streamlined pay applications
Billing and pay application workflows run on the same data as the job cost.
Lower administrative overhead
Improved cash flow with fewer people touching each transaction.
Legacy infrastructure eliminated
Costly legacy software and the infrastructure under it retired entirely.
Questions about this implementation
Why did GCATS leave Microsoft Dynamics SL?
Dynamics SL had stopped scaling with the business. It sat alongside ConEst, eSUB, IntelliBid, SureCount and Excel, none of which talked to each other, so staff re-keyed data at every boundary and reporting arrived late and inconsistent. Maintaining the stack had itself become a full workload.
What was implemented at GCATS?
Acumatica Construction Management for financials, projects, equipment and reporting, with Procore retained for estimating, takeoff, budgets, project management, safety and field operations. Agave connects Procore to Acumatica, and Velixo delivers Excel-based financial and project reporting.
What changed after go-live?
Takeoff and estimating are automated, bid-to-project turnaround is faster, field time is entered daily with real-time visibility for PMs and operations, and pay application workflows run on the same data as job cost. Legacy software and its infrastructure were retired entirely.
